Stephen writes about things that upset him!

It’s potentially really triggering, because it is about upsetting topics, but I am very happy with how it turned out.

Thank you so much for writing that. These young people and the many other trans youth need all the adult champions they can muster. You have an eloquent voice and a unique opportunity to raise it; I’m so glad you’re speaking out.

Your ability to be a sane and civilized voice in the hysteria is a true gift. Please keep writing.

I bet it upsets you, too, that apparently the National Enquirer is picking up your story again, claiming your parents (and especially your father Warren Beatty) will not be paying for the surgery they claim you wish to undergo. However, now that you are an “entity on your own” via your activism, your blog, your Twitter messages etc. tabloids like that will state you have become a celebrity yourself which in their twisted reasoning makes you “fair game” for their disgusting prying and innuendo about things that are simply private.

I cannot wait until you have completed school and can be an advocate full-time. The world needs more brave and compassionate people to help teach us about gender issues.

What I think most reactionary people find most unsettling about transgender people is that it brings into focus that gender is a construct. I admit I don’t know as much as I would like about the trans community; I hope reading your blog will help. I do know that children know from a very young age whether or not they feel comfortable in their bodies, and I hope that someday all transgender children feel safe enough to speak up like the incredible children you write about.

I’m gonna do some more research on these cases.

some people cannot imagine that gender is just a social construct. the thought pitches eternal fear of hellfire into their hearts, so much that they’d rather speculate on a child’s genitalia than just respect the kid. it’s so screwed up…
